The global cannabis market is evolving rapidly. New regulatory frameworks, changing consumer behaviour and emerging product categories are creating fresh opportunities – while also challenging established industries and business models. This panel explores what the ongoing legalization of cannabis could mean for the tobacco industry. Where do potential synergies exist in production, distribution, branding and retail? Which new markets and consumer segments could emerge? And where do regulatory uncertainty, shifting social attitudes and increasing competition create risks? Industry experts will discuss how tobacco companies can position themselves in this changing environment, which strategic opportunities are opening up and what businesses should consider when entering or engaging with the legal cannabis market. A forward-looking discussion for decision-makers, brands, manufacturers, distributors and retailers who want to understand how the convergence of tobacco and cannabis could shape the industry`s next chapter.

As the European cannabis market matures, corporate consolidation is accelerating. Strategic acquisitions, distressed asset purchases, cross-border joint ventures and structured investments are increasingly shaping the competitive landscape. Yet cannabis M&A remains uniquely complex: regulatory fragmentation, licensing sensitivity, banking constraints, valuation volatility and reputational considerations continue to challenge even experienced dealmakers. This panel will examine how corporate M&A in the European cannabis sector is taking off again — and where the real risks and rewards lie.

CBD flowers and other cannabinoid-containing smoking products are increasingly occupying a regulatory grey area between novel foods, medicinal products, and traditional smoking products. At the same time, patterns of consumption, distribution channels, and taxation frameworks are becoming increasingly aligned with the tobacco sector. This panel examines whether, and to what extent, CBD products should ultimately be regulated as herbal smoking products, what the implications would be for producers, retailers, and consumers, and what role existing tobacco regulatory frameworks could play in this context. The discussion will also address issues such as taxation, product labelling, quality standards, and market integration.

The boom in the CBD market began in 2017. Numerous CBD companies and brands appeared on the market, and there was already talk of a billion-dollar market that would establish a long-term global presence. Then the European Commission decided to add foods and dietary supplements containing CBD to the list of novel foods. Since then, 19 applications for approval as novel foods have been pending with the EU. In February 2026, the EFSA classified a daily intake of 2 mg of CBD as safe, with an uncertainty factor of 400. Will the industry seize this opportunity and submit applications for approval as a novel food under these conditions? What products can actually be developed with this? And how should the next steps and timeline be estimated? The panel will discuss these questions and more with European experts, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders.

Despite their popularity, surprisingly little research exists on how cannabis pre-rolls vape carts perform. What influences their burn, potency, and overall experience? Critical factors like particle size and humidity remain largely unexplored. How does a vape cart compare to a joint? Does a dab hit ‘harder’ than a vaporiser? Our research dives deep into the chemistry of cannabis smoking and vaping, offering a first-of-its-kind analysis. In this presentation, we’ll unveil groundbreaking insights, answering the key question: What makes a joint truly exceptional, and how can we make vapes better?
